What is the ‘Cheshire Cat’ I hear you all cry?


Giles Pocklington decided that it was high time that local producers had a different outlet for their delicious products, so he set up a deli on the move – called Cheshire Cat. Giles stocks up on the best of local and regional produce and then sells them at markets across Cheshire. Giles has his cheese made especially for him at Reaseheath College in Nantwich, organic free-range eggs from the Harrisons at Abbey Leys Farm, butter from Westry Roberts and Charlie's herd in Weaverham, totally traceable home-grown beef from the Webb’s at Cheadle Farm, apple juice from Eddisbury fruit farm and of course Clippy’s Apple preserves.

The farm is set on the outskirts of the village of Chirk, with Chirk Castle close by. In years gone by the farm was owned by the Chirk Castle Estate until sold privately. In 2000 the Simpson family bought the farm with their son, Richard, a fully qualified Fish Farmer, taking on the daily management. As a family the Simpson's take pride in supplying their customers with the highest quality Rainbow, Blue and Golden trout as well as a wide variety of smoked products.

Whilst visiting Chirk; Clippy's Apples went for coffee and Bara birth at 'The West Arms' in Llanarmon - this pub is gorgeous and so were the views. We highly recommend this pub which is situated 11 miles west of Chirk on the B4500.

Sharon Canavan and her daughter Leanne Entwhistle set up a fantastic haven in Ramsbottom for excellent coffees and delicious homemade cakes as well light lunches and weekly themed evening menus. Their cakes are so fantastic that they won Best Sweet Pastry - Bitter Chocolate Torte at the 2007 NW Fine Food Awards.

Ramsbottom is a delightful place, the community is thriving with lots of local shops on the highstreet. The Cultured Bean is just one of them, they serve delicious homemade pastry's along with really good coffee. They also have a licence to serve alcohol and everything is freshly prepared on the premises.

I met Kate (who is mental, but in a good way) in spring of this year. We got on like a house on fire.  Kate loved our preserves and placed an order, including our new 1 litre catering tubs. Delikate uses the Figgy Diggy in one of their signature sandwiches. Delikate also bakes fantastic cupcakes made by Katya Harrison and stocks local bread supplier Born and Bread.

The goodfoodstore is run by Adrienne Taylor; it is an online delivery box scheme with a true emphasis on produce which is as local as possible.
